Hardin Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2006
11419
The first Hardin Cabernet Sauvignon (2003) was discovered by Doug on a trip to California. The wine was sourced from one of Napa Valley's long time cult producers. Doug found himself in Napa at the right time, and was able to taste and buy a small lot of this top, top quality wine. Following the blow-out success of the first three vintages, Doug went right to work putting together a stellar follow-up for 2006. He traveled throughout Napa tasting small lots of Cabernet until he was able to assemble the right combination of components. The 2006 blend was sourced predominantly from the same sexy/culty Napa sources used in the 2004 and 2005 vintages. The 2006 blend is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 2% Malbec. The composite wine was aged in about 75% new French oak for 18 months. The wine reflects the power and richness of the 2006 vintage in California. It comes across with lots of rich cassis fruit, soft tannins, and well-integrated oak flavors. Once again, a real overachiever and amazing value given the pedigree of the component parts.
