Scott Family Estate Chardonnay Arroyo Seco 2021
Our vineyards in Monterey's Arroyo Seco were first planted more than 50 years ago. We worked tirelessly until the right blend of rootstock and clonal selection yielded perfection. Founded in 2008, our Scott Family Estate wines were named after the maternal grandfather of the family.
Appellation: Arroyo Seco
Aging: Aged 10 Months in Stainless Steel and French Oak
Alcohol: 14.5%
Tasting Notes
Vibrant aromas of stone-fruit, green apple and slight sweet oak. This Chardonnay features a creamy mid-palate with a soft finish, bright acidity to compliment citrus and mineral flavors.
Food Pairing Notes
We recommend pairing this wine with summer corn & wood grilled wild king salmon. Also, delicious with soft cheeses such as a triple-creme cheese served with apricots.
Production Notes
The 2021 harvest in Monterey County was condensed following a long, cool growing season. The extended cool conditions and lack of hot summer days resulted in high acids and low sugars. The season’s long hang times resulted in refined development, as well as wines with great depth and exceptionally concentrated fruit flavors and density
Vineyard Notes
Arroyo Seco “Dry Creek”, a sub-appellation of the Monterey AVA, enjoys a cool climate, producing an extended growing season (often 2 to 4 weeks longer than Napa Valley). This added hang time allows for greater fruit ripening and brighter acidity. Our estate vineyards, inland from Big Sur, have deep, gravelly soils, ideal for premium Chardonnay cultivation. This unique combination of soil and climate produces relatively small berries with intense, concentrated flavors.
Scott Family Estate
Terroir Inspired Wines
Committed to Sustainability and the crafting of Fine Wines
Early pioneers of Monterey’s Arroyo Seco, the Zaninovich family used their decades-long experience of California farming to plant vineyards in this coastal region in 1970. They recognized the land as having great potential for growing quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and the family experimented tirelessly until the right blend of rootstock and clonal selection yielded perfection.
Founded in 2008, Scott Family Estate was named for Raymond Scott, the maternal grandfather of Rutherford Wine Company General Manager Morgan Zaninovich. Morgan has many fond memories of visiting his grandfather at his home in Santa Cruz, until his passing in 2010, just after his 99th Birthday.
Warm days and cool nights with morning fog allow for slow, gentle, even ripening of grapes in Arroyo Seco. After careful experimentation, the family decided that the Dijon clones for both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are best suited to the unique soils and climate of Arroyo Seco. These clones offer a wide range of fruit and styles. 100% Estate-grown and hand-harvested. Scott Family Estate wines are crafted for the discerning, varietal loyalists who enjoy incorporating wine into their daily life – paired with food, family, and friends.
Rutherford Ranch Winery
We are family-owned and managed, and for three generations our family has been committed to earth-friendly winegrowing.
“Sustainable” viticulture is not only good for the environment, it results in higher quality fruit, a prerequisite for crafting world-class wines.
The winery is located on Napa Valley’s scenic Silverado Trail within the Rutherford District. Of Napa’s sixteen designated AVAs (American Viticultural Area), Rutherford is renowned for producing unsurpassed Cabernet Sauvignon along with other premium grape varietals. We welcome guests to visit and experience our award-winning wines that we craft with care and tremendous pride.
Rutherford Ranch Winery is on the site of the original Round Hill Winery that was founded in 1978 by Ernie Van Asperen, Virginia Van Asperen and Charlie Abela. When the Van Asperens retired in 2000, Marko and Theo Zaninovich, long-time shareholders with the Van Asperen family, acquired the winery. The estate vineyards were replanted with superior vines and the winery and tasting room have since undergone significant renovations.
Yet, the estate’s 100-year-old olive grove and unpretentious charm remain essentially unchanged.
